Admission to Canadian Universities

Please note that there are no university or college entrance examinations in Canada. For admission to undergraduate programs, universities evaluate transcripts from the student's high school.

For most types of studies, foreign students will have to:

- have passed the equivalent of a Canadian high school program with high marks.

- demonstrate a solid competence in the use of English (or French if the studies are to be conducted in this language). Students may be required to provide proof of their language proficiency in the form of a language proficiency test (eg TOEFL, IELTS, MELAB).

The University Relations Department of the Canadian Embassy advises to apply for admission at least three months in advance of the deadline for receipt of applications by universities (dates may vary between January 1 and March 1 According to the universities). Allow about 58 CAD to 87 CAD of administration fees.

Obviously, you can only recommend that you go on a university exchange program because it ensures the validation of your Canadian experience and, above all, your expenses will be considerably reduced! Apart from the bilateral agreements, there are two major programs created to facilitate exchanges:

- The Interuniversity Cooperation Office: it involves 200 French universities and French great schools at some twenty Québec institutions. To see if the Interuniversity Cooperation Office can help you, all starts in your faculty: your international relations department will provide you with an access code to register on the website of the Interuniversity Cooperation Office http://www.bci-qc.ca/. You will then have to define a specific course adapted to your current curriculum with your director of University.

- Interuniversity mission for the coordination of countries exchanges: this program links certain Canadian institutions with other foreign universities. In order to participate, students must be licensed and have at least 250 points at TOEFL-CBT. Only about ten places a year are available, so hurry to fill your file and hang up!

- Ontario and the Rhône-Alpes region have developed a specific exchange program (ORA Exchange Program): www.yorku.ca/ontra.
